Of course, there is no such thing as personal alarms for women. Whether you are a man or a woman, or if you identify yourself as neither, you can choose whichever personal alarm you think would best suite your needs.

What is important, however, is that the personal alarm that you choose is one that you feel you could easily use in an emergency. And, one that you would feel comfortable carrying around with you all the time.

Personal alarms for women come in all shapes and sizes. Some are keychain alarms that you can attach to your handbag. Some look like pendants that you could hang from your neck. Some are heavy-duty alarms that would be more suitable for carrying in your pocket, or in your bag.

There are also quite a wide variety of styles of personal alarms available. Alarms of this type range from large heavy-duty personal alarms to much smaller keychain style personal alarms. Some are simple black boxes. Some are brightly colored, have patterns on, and look a lot more fashionable.

In this review of best personal alarms for women, we have included a range of different styles. Some are very nice looking colorful personal alarm systems that wouldn’t look out of place hanging from your handbag. There are personal alarms that look key fobs that could double as a key ring. And, there is the heavy-duty personal alarms that you could either wear around your neck or hold in your hand when you are out running or cycling.

For each of the best personal alarms in this review, we have taken a close look at the specifications. We checked them out ourselves, and we looked at the customer reviews for you too. We hope that you find this review of personal alarms for women useful and it helps you choose the best personal alarm for your needs.

How to Choose the Best Personal Alarm

Personal alarms for women are available in a wide variety of designs and from many different suppliers. So, picking out the alarm that will meet your own personal requirements can be tricky. While personal alarms are relatively inexpensive these days, it is still worth putting a bit of thought into how you want to carry your alarm. Think about how easy it will be to use your personal alarm, as well as what you want it look like. Here are our tips on what we think you should be considering when you are choosing a personal alarm for a woman.

Method of Activation

One of the first things to consider when purchasing a personal alarm is how easy is the alarm is going to be to activate in an emergency. There are various ways that a personal alarm might be activated. Activation methods include push-button operation and ripcord activation. There are also alarms that you activate by pulling the alarm from the keychain.

Think about the activation method that would be easiest for you personally to use. Bear in mind that if you have large fingers, a small pin might be difficult to get hold of. If you are visually impaired, it might be easier to find a button on the alarm than a loose-hanging rip-cord.

Loudness

Most of the best personal alarms for women have sirens that sound in the 120dB to 140dB range. That’s loud enough to attract attention and loud enough to scare an attacker away. Over 120dB, the sound will be uncomfortable for anyone close-by to you. A personal safety alarm that is much less than 120dB, however, may not be loud enough to disorientate and scare an assailant away.

Method of Carrying

Think about when it is that you will most often need a personal panic alarm, because that will help you decide on what type of alarm you will need. Keychain personal alarms are very good, because you can attach them to your handbag when you are out. However, a keychain alarm is not going to be a lot of help when you are out jogging or cycling, if your handbag is still at home.

It may be that you need to buy more one than one personal alarm. As most personal security alarms only cost around $10, that might not be too much of an issue for you. The main thing to remember is that a personal security device is going to be no use to you at all if you don’t carry it with you. Convenience and portability are both considerations when you are looking for the best personal alarm for a woman.

Size

Personal alarms for women and keychain alarms for women are relatively lightweight and small these days. Size, in this instance, really does matter! Too big, and you won’t want to carry it around with you. Too small, and you might find it hard to locate in an emergency and it might be too fiddly to operate. Look at the dimensions of a personal alarm device before you buy it. If possible, look for pictures that show someone holding the alarm to give you a better idea of the actual size.

Appearance

The best personal alarms for women and rape alarms come in all shapes and sizes. There are pendant alarms, keychain alarms, pom-pom alarms, personal alarms that look like lipsticks; you name it, someone has made it! However, while some of the alarms might kook very cute, consider the practical points, before you consider the aesthetics. The attack alarm that you choose must be something that you will be happy carrying around or happy having attached to your bag. The functional points that we have mentioned above, though, are far more important than the outward appearance of a personal alarm.

Reviews

Finally, when you are looking for a personal alarm for women, check out the alarm reviews that have been left by other people. Although you need to be aware that some reviewers are just born complainers. Some people may have even been paid to leave positive reviews by unscrupulous sellers too. But, if most of the people who have left reviews have left positive reviews of a personal alarm, it’s a safe bet that the alarm is a good one.

Personal Alarm Reviews, Panic Alarm Reviews, Personal Attack Alarm Reviews, Best Personal Alarms, Best Panic Alarms, Best Personal Attack Alarms

Next up in our reviews of best personal alarms for women is the iMaxAlarm SOS Alert Personal Alarm, which is a slightly different design from the more common keychain personal attack alarms.

The iMaxAlarm SOS Alert personal security alarm is a 13dB safety device that is activated by a ring-pull style activation device the top of the alarm, which also doubles as an attachment for fitting a lanyard, cord, keychain or a key ring

The alarm looks and feels quite robust, and it’s a nice size too. It’s neither so big that it would unwieldy to carry, nor so small that you would have trouble getting hold of it when you need it.

The alarm comes in a choice of four colors; gold, black, rose-gold or silver, and it would be ideal for hanging around your neck like a pendant, which would make it a great alarm if you enjoy running, cycling or walking. Equally, it wouldn’t look out of place hung on a keychain from your handbag or purse. This personal alarm for women comes with both a lightweight carabiner and an adjustable lanyard.

The Lermende 120 dB personal alarm for women could be attached to handbag, backpack or school bag. You could also wear it on a chain around your neck. The alarm comes with a battery installed.

  • I bought emergency personal alarm for my daughter who works until after midnight every night. I know that she has to walk in the dark to her car across a long parking lot. We live in a high traffic area that has a lot of human trafficking and I want her to be safe. This device has a great little keychain size, a nice bright easy to use flashlight, and an amazing alarm sound. I’m truly impressed with how very very loud and disturbing the sound is and I know that if she ever has to use it in emergency there’s no way that somebody can ignore her. This was well worth my money.

  • Lone female joggers getting attacked is kind of a thing, fit-bit or running apps with built in security or first aid feature would be great!

  • Probably better off carrying a rock. Free, readily available and hurts a hell of a lot more than that plastic thing if you strike an attacker with it. I know, it sounds silly, but I’m a believer in the “whatever works” mentality.

    • We take you point nataly last, but we’re not sure what your local law enforcement officer will think when you clobber someone over the head with a rock 😊
