What is Childproofing?

The term childproofing is a little misleading. You can’t childproof a home, but you can make the home a lot safer for kids. There will never be an alternative to good parenting. Even if you do take steps to childproof or babyproof your home, young kids still need proper supervision.

Childproofing means making the home as safe as possible for children. IT means looking at each room in the home and assessing what could be dangerous for a child in that space. Every room in the home may contain some dangers. Sharp corners on furniture, long cords on blinds, and electrical outlets; there are lots of items around the home that could hurt a child.

Young kids are not as aware of dangers as adults are. And, young children are also very curious. That lack of awareness and curiosity can be a dangerous combination. A bookshelf is something to climb, a basement is something is to explore, and the kitchen drawers have lots of fascinating tools utensils to try out.

Fortunately, there are lots of childproofing products to keep your kids safe. So, take a look at the following infographic, and then do a safety check of your own home. Or, download this printable PDF childproofing checklist and make sure that you have every room in your home childproofed.
