How to Keep Your Home Secure
Guest Post by Metador
Your home should be your safe haven, a place to relax and feel happy and secure. Keeping it safe and secure doesn’t have to be a challenge, with a few simple additions and tweaks you can make your home much more secure. Security Door manufacturer Metador is here with some top tips to help you out…
Light It Up
If you’re concerned about intruders there’s a simple and effective way to put them off. Lights! Most intruders operate in the dark so illuminating your garden and home is a great way to deter them while making things easier for you. The most effective solution is motion-activated security lights which can be installed anywhere on the outside of your home.
Keep an Eye on Things
Security cameras are great for home security for several reasons. Not only can you actively monitor your home, but they are also a great deterrent, after all, what would-be thief would knowingly get caught on camera. With the rise of video doorbells like the Ring Doorbell it’s easier than ever to keep track of everything too.
Think About Where You Leave Things
This might seem like common sense but leaving things like car keys in plain view of a window is like a goldmine to a thief or intruder. Keep valuable in a secure location and also consider a metal key box; with the rise of keyless cars, signals can be amplified from inside your home and copied to steal your car with no effort at all.
Upgrade Your Windows and Door Locks
If you can’t put an intruder or thief off, the least you can do is make things difficult for them. The majority of forced entry burglaries are committed through the weakest point in the home which could be things like glass patio doors. Fitting improved locks or patlocks is a fairly easy way to improve security. Patlocks are easily fitted and removed in seconds but make your door that much more secure.
Check for Any Flaws
Living in your home makes you complacent, because you are there you might overlook security flaws and put any problems to the back of your mind. Have a friend or family member take a look around and see what they can spot and improve any of the flaws you might have missed.
Keep the Car Secure
For many people their car is their pride and joy, unfortunately not everyone has a garage to keep their vehicle secure. Leaving a car on a driveway isn’t particularly secure, even with a gate that needs opening, you can improve it very easily though. By getting a post on the driveway with a lock you can keep your car boxed in and safe on the drive.
If you stick to these tips, you can keep your home secure and your valuables safe. There are plenty of ways you can improve your home security and no matter how nice of an area you live in it’s better to be safe than sorry.
