Staying Safe After an Auto Accident During a Pandemic

Guest Post By: Avi, QC Collision

Everyone is aware of the problems that emerged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most states announced strict rules to stay-at-home during the early stages of the crisis.

Fortunately, though, many of those restrictions have since been relaxed. Even so, COVID-19 remains a concern, and many new cases are reported every day. And it has been reported that a significant number of incidents have been linked to victims of auto accidents.

Involving yourself in such a car accident could be hectic. These situations involve communication among the people to collect information and talk to people who witnessed the incident.

And, in such a traumatic situation, the need for social distancing might be forgotten. So, here are some tips to keep you safe if you have an auto accident during the pandemic.

Safety Measures to Stay Safe

One of the crucial recommendations by the CDC is to maintain 6 feet distance. Following are the five useful safety measures to be taken after an auto accident.

1. Safety Must Be Your First Priority

Safety is the priority on which you must focus. Make sure the roads are safe before you get out of your vehicle. As soon as you encounter an accident, pull your car aside from the road and then discuss it with the other driver.

  • Identify if anybody is injured.
  • Call emergency services if required
  • Report the accident.

2. Respect Social Distancing

Once you are sure that it is safe to get out of your vehicle, follow and maintain the CDC rules recommended for being safe in COVID-19.

  • Wear a face covering
  • Maintain social distancing

3. Record Accident Information Safely

Make sure to capture all the necessary information. Instead of using pen and paper, use smartphones and share the essential facts for insurance purposes.

  • Note down the name and contact information of a driver and passengers
  • Details of other vehicles involved
  • Driver’s license number
  • License plate number
  • Insurance company and the policy number
  • Evidence from the witnesses
  • Location of the accident

4. Contact Your Insurance Provider

You can consult your insurance company via app or directly contact them via phone call. Finally, file a claim if one of the following is true:

  • Vehicle needs repairs that might cost more than the vehicle is worth
  • Someone was injured in the accident
  • It’s unclear who was at fault in the accident

5. Contact an Auto Repair Center

A car accident might cause damage to your car, and that damage could be either minor or major. If the damage is major, it would be best not to attempt to drive your vehicle. Instead, call a tow truck company to remove the vehicle from the scene of the accident. However, only remove your vehicle from the scene of an auto collision once attending police officers have said it is it ok to do so.

You can then share the photos of the damage to your vehicle with your auto repair shop and request an estimation to get them repaired.
