We are moving towards a new way of working for many as remote working solutions are becoming the norm, especially during lockdown due to COVID-19. Whilst this way of working has many benefits, it can lead to concerns about security. This is especially true for organizations worried about day-to-day handling of private data. So, what can your organization do to stay secure whilst your employees work remote?

Set Out Policies and Best Practices

First of all, come to an agreement on what the practices are that you want all employees to follow. Establish a clear data security policy and make sure it is available for everyone to view. State any regulations around the use of personal devices and checklists of acceptable device etiquette for those provided by the company.

Where appropriate monitor employees’ remote practices. Let your employees know well in advance if you intend to track their activity and look to use a remote monitoring system to make sure that employees are following security best practices.

Make Sure Staff Have Appropriate Tools and Technology

Work with employees and your IT department in particular to make sure that everyone has the tools and technology they need to do their jobs. Make sure employees have antivirus software, firewalls, and spam filtering tools installed and up to date. As an added bonus moving to a password free environment may provide more convenience for employees.
